Start Output and Output Linearization (OL) of a PostScript document with Fig. B4 of the chromatic ISO/IEC-test chart no. 2
according to ISO/IEC 15775:1999-12
There are at least three different methods to linearize the printer output:
1. By Linearization Method data (CIELAB data and PS code) in the PS file (F)
2. By colour manangement data in the Distiller Startup (S) directory
3. By Linearization Method data in the PostScript device (D) memory

Remark 1: The output result produced is the same for the three methods, see the URL DE09
Remark 2: The PostScript document was produced by the software Digital DECwrite V3.1 on a VAX computer.
Remark 3: Any other layout program, e. g. Adobe FrameMaker on UNIX, MAC or WINDOWS, may be used instead.

For similar Methods to produce a start and linearized output for a single Figure or many Figures
of the ISO/IEC-test charts or the complete ISO/IEC-test charts
, see DE00

For the accuracy of the Start and Linearized printer output for the digital 16 step colour series, see DE14L

1. Output Linearization (OL) of a PostScript document file

There are five steps S1 to S5 recommended here (x=H,F,O,T are different printers):
Step S1:
Produce a PS document file x10E00NA.PS, e. g. using the software DECWrite V3.1, Framemaker 6.0, etc.

Step S2: Start output of the PS document file x10E00NA.PS and CIELAB measurement of 4 x 16 colours

Step S3: Produce an output linearization file, e. g. OUTOPTFA.PS

Step S4: There are 3 methods for the output linearization (F=File, D=Device, S=Startup)
Step S4F:
Include the output linearization file, e. g. OUTOPTFA.PS (F=file), in the file x10E00NA.PS and call this new PS document file x10E00FA.PS (F=file)
Step S4D: Copy the output linearization file, e. g. OUTOPTDA.PS (D=Device), into the Device (D)
Step S4S: Copy the output linearization file, e. g. OUTOPTSA.PS (S=Startup), to the Distiller Startup (S) Directory

Step S5: Only in case of S4F a changed output file x10E00FA.PS is necessary
Step S5F:
Use the PS document file x10E00FA.PS for output linearization
Step S5D:
Use the original PS document file x10E00NA.PS for output linearization. The linearization data are in the device.
Step S5S:
Use the original PS document file x10E00NA.PS for output linearization. The linearization data are in the Distiller Startup (S) directory.
