1.0 Different model files for Output Linearization (OL) of 16 step colour series

The file extentions are defined by 4 or 5 characters, e g. NP.PS and NP.PDF:
One character describes the output by No (N), Startup (S) and Device (D) Linearization Method (using "N", "S", "D" and for two simulation methods "T" and "E")
Three or four characters describe the file format:

This leads for No Linearization Method (OLN) to the file extentions:

2. 0 Examples:
PS output files NA.PS and FA.PS
useful for a PS device only:
The file NA.PS (No Output Linearisation (OLN)) includes no output measurement data of the start output step S1. The file NA.PS will produce the standard output in series "N:".
The file FA.PS (F=File Output Linearisation (OLF)) includes the output measurement data (CIELAB data) of the file NA.PS. The file FA.PS will produce the linearized output for the 16 step grey and colour scales in the series "F:".


3.0 Output Linearization (OL) of 16 step colour series for device T for the colour series w­c, w­m, w­y,w­n, w­o, w­l, w­v, and w­olvn(=cmy)

3.3 S=Startup Output Linearisation (OLS) by Adobe Acrobat Distiller 3.0 using the file T10E00SA.PS and the file OUTLINSA.PS in the Distiller Startup directory (S). This output can be simulated by the file T10E00TP.PS which includes in the file the same Startup (S) file OUTLINTP.PS. The file T10E00SP.PS includes no output linearization file and will therefore show the result with no output linearization.

Remark 1: The Distiller 3.0_S (S=Startup) directory has been used to produce the file with the extention TP.PDF frorm TP.PS. This simulates the output.

3.4 D=Device Output Linearisation (OLD)
using the file T10E00DA.PS file and the file OUTLINDA.PS included in the PS Device (D). This output can be simulated by the file T10E00EP.PS which includes the same file OUTLINEP.PS of the Device (D). The file T10E00DP.PS includes no output linearization file and will therefore show the result with no output linearization.

Remark 1: The Distiller 3.0_S (S=Startup) directory has been used to produce the file with the extention EP.PDF frorm EP.PS. This simulates the output only approximately. We found larger differences between PS output and PDF output which varies by the every Distiller version.

Remark 1: It is possible to calculate the different file formats (BMP, GIF, ..., TIF) by the software Adobe Acrobat Illustrator 8.0 on Macintoshusing the original (hand coded) PostScript (PS) file format. (X.PS, X=B,G,H,I,J,T). Only a few examples are calculated here. The others may be calculated by the user software and the user operating system.

Remark 2: Some computer operating systems or web browsers fail to show the content of the formats HTM_JPE and JPE. Use e.g. Adobe Illustrator 8.0 to show the correct content.

Remark 3: It is asumed that e. g. the public domain software GoScript and other software will give equivalent transformations of the file format PostScript (PS). There is a wish to get the different file formats also by hand coding in the different formats (like the original eps- or PS-program code). This has not been realized yet and is not important if the following remark is confirmed.

Remark 4: The linearized colour output (equal relative spacing in CIELAB) is independent of the file format (PS, PDF, BMP, GIF, HTM_GIF89, HTM_JPE, JPE, TIF) and the application software (Adobe Acrobat Illustrator , GoScript ) and the computer operating system (Windows, Mac, Unix) used. This statement must be confirmed for every file format and application software by colour measurement.

Remark 5: There is the user requirement to linearize the colour output only for a limited amount of file formats and application programs for his computer environement. Different file formats and application programs may give the same first and second output. It is important to realize that the linearization is possible (on the second output step S2) for every combination of file format and application program.
