Original and important properties the image data used:
A photo of the flower motiv with the 16 step equally spaced gray scale (L*=18 to 95) and the CIE-test colours has been taken on slide film (sf) for Fig. B1 of the ISO/IEC-test chart no. 2 and on negative film (nf) for Fig. D1 of the ISO/IEC-test chart no. 4. The Kodak Photo-CD process (14 bit nonlinear) has produced the raw scan data. The grey scale data of the raw scan has been transferred to the equally spaced digital olv* image data (rgb image data). This method changes all the other image pixel data as well. The visual difference of Fig. B1 based on slide film (sf) and Fig. D1 based on negative film (nf) apears low. An output of Fig. B1 and D1 with the same resolution on monitors or printers confirms the low visual image difference.

The Output Linearisation (OL) method is not applied here to the image data of Fig. B1 or D1, e. g. in the files L..FP.PDF. The Output Linearisation (OL) method for image data will be included in one of the next versions of the MTL-Code.

This page includes files for the following application:
Chromatic ISO/IEC-test chart 4, olv* input,
Colour Workflow (CW) and Output Linearisation (OL)

For Output Linearisation (OL) CIELAB data are used in the files.

For Output Linearisation (OL) CIELAB data are used in the files.

Table 1 includes the output files of the Portable Document format (L..NP.PS/TXT/PDF and L..FP.PS/TXT/PDF)
Table 2 includes the output files of the PostScript format (L..NA.PS/TXT and L..FA.PS/TXT).
Table 3 includes the output files of the Portable Document format (L..NP.PS/TXT/PDF and L..SP.PS/TXT/PDF).

To indicate the Colour Workflow (CW) at the output different file names are used. The files have usually the same PS content

The PS content of the files L..NP.PS, L..NA.PS and L..SP.PS of the Tables 1 to 3 is identical and includes no MTL code.
The PS content of the files L..FP.PS and L..FA.PS of the Tables 1 and 2 is identical and includes the MTL code L..FP.DAT or L..FA.DAT in the file (F).

The output of the files L..FP.PDF and L..SP.PDF must be identical if the MTL code L..SP.DAT is stored within the Distiller Startup Directory during distilling of the PS file L..SP.PS. The files L..FP.PDF and L..SP.PDF have been produced by the software Adobe Acrobat DIstiller Version 3.0. In the first case the MTL code is located in the file L..FP.PS and in the second case the MTL code L..FP.DAT = L..SP.DAT is not in the file L..SP.PS but in the Startup (S) directory of the software Adobe Acrobat DIstiller.

Table 2: For PS output with linearising data in File (F); Input PS operator no. 1 in the NA file and output PS operators no. 0 to 7 in the in FA file which are transferred by the PS MTL code.

Remark: With the files* of Table 2 it is intended to produce only a PS output and not a PDF output.

The files of the tables 1 to 3 are available for different devices instead of the model device L=Linear. Every device produces with all NP files the same start output. Only for the model device L=Linear of the table 2 the output of the NP and FP in one row is identical. For devices which produce equal output for corresponding colours the output of all FP files in one collum is identical.

In application the output of the NP files for differnet output parameters i*ptrsc is in one collum often different. The output of the FP file of the devices S and Q or of the linearized output devices F, O, and T is different compared to the output of the NP file. The PS MTL code uses the measurement data of up to 256 colours of the start output, see the CIELAB LAB* data at the beginning of the FP files, for the change and the linearisation of the output.

Table 3: For PDF output with linearising data in Startup (S); Input PS operator no. 1 in the NP file and output PS operators no. 0 to 7 in the in SP file which are transferred by the PS MTL code.

*) Only the PDF file L99E03SP.PS is transferred with the file L99E03SP.DAT which uses the parameter i*ptrsc=3 in the Distiller Startup (S) Directory. The other L..SP files of the Table 3 are distilled with the default file Example.ps in the Distiller Startup (S) Directory.

Remark: With the files* of Table 3 it is intended to produce only a PDF output with linearisation data in the Distiller Startup (S) Directory and not a PS output.

The input operator no. 1 and eight output PS operators no. 0 to 7 are used in the files. The input PS operator no. 1 of the NA or NP file are transferred to the output PS operators no. 0 to 7 in the FA, FP or SP file by the PS MTL code.

For further information and discussion of the results in the achromatic case with similar files see DE811

For further information and discussion of the results in the chromatic case with similar files see DE841

Compare the final result in DE811 and DE841. The Colour Workflow (CW) and the Output Linearisation (OL) of the PS MTL code is based on ISO/IEC 15775 and DIS ISO/IEC 19839-X. The PS MTL code is compatible to CIELAB and fulfils the basic user requirements in the field of image technology. The result is the same in the achromatic and chromatic case.
